& the Tenth House –
building an internal foundation for life
by Jef Bartow
From the intensity of our early 40s, both internal and external changes have brought forth the opportunity for a new or improved attitude and philosophy toward many things in life. Our late 40s now become a very productive time to incorporate these changes and philosophy of life into a stable foundation for the future. In a real way we can now finish building a solid sense of internal security based on who we are, not our conditioning. During this period, Capricorn, its ruler Saturn and the 10th House activities all take center stage. Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign. It's cardinal quality helps us initiate and progress forward in an active dynamic resourceful and energetic way. As an earth sign, its natural tendencies are to be practical, material oriented, detailed, responsible, persistent and enduring. This is why our late 40s is usually a very productive and success oriented time in our life. For those of you born with Sun in Capricorn (December 22 -- January 21), you naturally tend to be organized, socially aware, responsible and successful. You can also tend to be crystallized, demanding, authoritative and unbending. Capricorn's significant influence on you centers around your need for building a solid sense of internal security by operating successfully in the outer world.

Capricorn's ruler, Saturn, helps us define our concepts and systems for finding security within society; helps provide us a self-imposed limit or conscience on our behaviors and usually defines the boundaries of our Personality. Using our Saturn in a conscious way, it helps us to shape and form our conscious Ego. Getting to know this part of our self will naturally help us in our professional life, developing our social image, dealing with authority figures and operating in the outer world in general (all 10th House activities). Our opportunity here is to develop a social image, reputation and foundation in living our life's philosophy. In many ways, our true internal character can more easily become integrated with how we live in the outer world. Another way to put it is that we now "Revalue" our life based on the "Understanding" we gained in our early 40s. In each of our birth charts, the sign on the 10th House cusp influences our attitude and approach to the 10th House activities in life described above. For example, those with Pisces on the 10th House cusp (normally a Gemini ascendant person) will tend to be compassionate, imaginative, and empathetic (all characteristics of Pisces) in their professional life and toward the world in general. They can also tend to be unrealistic, gullible and somewhat isolated (also Piscean traits) toward authority figures, in their career and toward the world. By approaching these 10th House activities in life with the needs of Pisces, fulfilling our 10th House life goals are made easier. In our example, by approaching career, authority figures and in the world in general with the attitude of transcending past limitations and developing a sense of being through living their beliefs and faith in goals beyond their self (needs of Pisces), these individuals will better develop an internal foundation, social image and reputation in life (10th House goals).
